Day 1

Home – Perth – Northam
Flying into Perth, our staff will assist with your transfers before travelling to Midland, north east of Perth and the regional centre for the Swan Valley area for lunch. This afternoon, join the Great Eastern Highway and travel on to Northam on the Avon River, in the heart of the picturesque Avon Valley. Enjoy a local guide’s perspective of this historic town before settling into tonight’s accommodation.

L, D

Day 2

Northam – Kalgoorlie
After a hearty breakfast we continue along the Great Eastern Highway through Meckering, a town made famous by its earthquake of October 1968. Travel through the wheat belt with its vistas of small towns, farm lands, granite rock outcrops and scenic hills; and keep an eye out for wildflowers along the roadside. Passing through Boorabeen National Park you will marvel at the large and diverse eucalypt woodlands that defy the arid climate in which they thrive. Stop for a picnic lunch along the way before arriving into Coolgardie which is the original site of Western Australia’s goldrush of the 1890’s. Continue on to Kalgoorlie for the next two nights.

B, L, D

Day 3

Kalgoorlie Super Pit
As you explore Kalgoorlie today you will realise the foresight CY O’Connor had when he instigated the 563 kilometre long water pipeline, back in 1903.
Notice the beautifully restored civic buildings, unusual pubs and bronze statue of Paddy Hannan. This morning take a guided tour of the Kalgoorlie Super
Pit, Australia’s largest gold producing mine. Enjoy some free time to browse the shops and purchase your own lunch. See Hammond Park with animals and
birds surrounding the miniature Bavarian Castle built from local gemstones, before returning to your motel for dinner.

(Please be aware that when visiting the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, long sleeve shirts, long pants and closed in shoes are required and you must also be able to
pass an alcohol breath test of 0.00%.)

B, D

Day 4

Kalgoorlie – Esperance
Today we leave behind the area which is reputedly the richest square mile in the world and travel through the centre of Kambalda, thriving once again from the reopening of the nickel mine. Enjoy lunch in Norseman, before travelling south to Esperance for a visit to Mermaid Leather, Australia’s only fish and shark leather tanning company. Here you will learn the process of manufacturing fish leather while having the opportunity to purchase leather products.

B, L, D

Day 5

Recherche Archipelago – Esperance Stonehenge
Today we cruise from Esperance through the Recherche Archipelago. The region is known as the Bay of Islands with a collection of 110 islands within the area. It is renowned as a haven for marine life and, if you are lucky, you might see fur seals, dolphins and, perhaps even a Southern Right Whale. (Please note that wheelie walkers are not suitable on the boat, as stairs and ramps need to be negotiated.) After disembarking purchase your own lunch before our visit to the Esperance Stonehenge, a full sized replica of the original Stonehenge in UK, as it would have looked around 1950BC.

B, D

Day 6

Esperance – Balladonia
After farewelling this beautiful part of Australia, travel north to our lunch stop in Norseman. According to legend, the town was named after a horse – “Hardy Norseman”. Visit the bronze statue that stands proudly in recognition of the part the horse played in establishing the town. Following lunch, continue on to Balladonia where you can visit the local cultural heritage museum before checking in for our overnight stay.

B, L, D

Day 7

Balladonia – Eucla
Continue along the Eyre Highway to Caiguna which features one of the longest known straight stretches of highway. The Nullarbor Plain (meaning “no trees”) is the world’s largest single exposure of limestone bedrock and occupies an area of about 200,000 square kilometres. At its widest point, it stretches about 1,100 kilometres from east to west. Continue on through Cocklebiddy, Madura and Mundrabilla enroute to Eucla where the Telegraph Station is located; partly buried in sand. Photos of the old township are in the museum at our accommodation.

B, L, D

Day 8

Eucla – Ceduna
As we leave Eucla Pass, white sand plains stretch far ahead. East of the border, see the spectacular views of the Southern Ocean from the lookouts as we travel along the Great Australian Bight. Following lunch at the Nullarbor Roadhouse, visit Head of the Bight Visitors Centre with opportunity to watch from the boardwalks for Southern Right Whales. Drive through Nundroo and Penong to coastal Ceduna.

B, L, D

Day 9

Ceduna – Port Augusta
Cross the Eyre Peninsula seeing vast grain fields near Kimba before travelling on to the head of Spencer Gulf - Port Augusta. Visit the Wadlata Outback Centre, an award-winning complex,
epitomising the early days in the remote areas of Australia where transport differed greatly from present day.

B, L, D

Day 10

Port Augusta – Glenelg
Follow the eastern side of Spencer Gulf through Port Germein to Port Pirie, where you will see a number of fine late 19th and early 20th century heritage buildings which tell the stories of Port Pirie’s people and it’s industries including smelting, railway and shipping. Continue southward through Crystal Brook, Kadina and Port Wakefield before arriving into Adelaide. Stay overnight in historic seaside centre of Glenelg.

B, L, D

Day 11

Glenelg – Home
After breakfast this morning, you have some free time to enjoy some of the sights of Adelaide, perhaps take a return tram ride into Adelaide city or spend time exploring seaside Glenelg prior to an early lunch. Transfer to Adelaide Airport for your flight home.
