Please note:

The below itinerary is for our October 2018 departure.

Day 1

Welcome to the start of your Lord Howe holiday! Your transfer will be organised to take you to the Brisbane Domestic Airport where our Cross Country Tours staff will assist with your check-in. Enjoy light refreshments during your early afternoon flight before arriving on the timeless pristine paradise of Lord Howe Island where you will be met by a representative of Leanda-Lei Apartments (Ph 02 6563 2195) and transferred to your accommodation. Leanda-Lei is located on the lower end of Middle Beach Road, opposite Joy's Shop; 300m to Lagoon Beach and within easy walking distance of most restaurants, the bowling club and museum. Lord Howe Island has been inscribed on the World Heritage List for its rare collection of plants, birds and marine life and exceptional natural beauty. It is one of only a handful of places in the world, and one of just four island groups to be awarded The World Heritage Listing. The island is surrounded by marine parks managed by the NSW and Australian Governments. Lord Howe Island is 550kms east of Port Macquarie on the NSW coast and is part of NSW. This evening enjoy a "Welcome Slide Show" followed by dinner at the Anchorage Restaurant.

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast each morning at the nearby Coral Café. It is located approximately 5 minutes on foot from your accommodation. Today includes a coach tour visiting some of Lord Howe Island's more interesting nooks and crannies followed by a relaxing "Round the Island" 2 hour cruise on "Lulawai" - a beautiful vessel purposely designed for the Island's waters. Relax and enjoy the remarkable views including the spectacular image of the sheer mountain cliffs of Balls Pyramid creeping up in the distance while listening to the commentary on flora, fauna, geology and the history of the island. (The time of this cruise is subject to weather and tides) Afternoon at leisure before a 3 course Fish Fry dinner at the boutique style Beachcomber restaurant.

B, D

Day 3

Following breakfast, we will visit North Bay for a Turtle and Nature Tour and BBQ lunch. The tour is dedicated to the Northern end of the lagoon which ensures that the tour operates around the best possible tides to view the turtles and birds at North Bay. Enjoy the relaxed commentary on the Island's history & marine life as we cruise slowly to the beautiful North Bay. While exploring North Bay you can climb up Mt. Eliza, walk to the Old Gulch or Herring Pools, view the sea bird rookery (seasonal), swim or just sit and laze the day away. You can also take an optional guided walk along the beach where you are able to get up close to some of the Islands Migratory seabirds, have numerous photo opportunities and learn about the unique history of the Bay. Afternoon free before concluding the day with a delicious 3 Couse dinner at Milky Way.

B, L, D

Day 4

Spend the morning relaxing before being directed to the hospital grounds this afternoon where you will join Ron Matthews from Ronnie Ramble's Bushwalking Tours. Enjoy a 3 hour guided environmental and history walk, learning about the flora, bush tucker and medicine, the palm and tourist industry, birds, volcanic history, plus snippets of colourful local history. A great "get to know the Island" stroll. This evening's dinner is at the Bowls Club.

B, D

Day 5

View the pristine beauty of one of the world's untouched reef systems. Learn about this unique marine environment and discover a new world on a glass bottom boat tour. The two hour tour focuses on exploring the profuse coral seascape and introduces visitors to some of the more unusual lagoon inhabitants such as the endemic double-header wrasse, stingrays and turtles. The rest of the day is at your leisure. You may like to go fishing, swimming or just relax. Early evening we view the historical movies held at the local hall. These movies of the island show it's traditions and way of life. This evening we will have a 2 course dinner at Pandanus Restaurant.

B, D

Day 6

This morning we walk to little island with our guide, Ron Ramble. We will go to the fascinating mountains end of the Island, to embark on a 1km level stroll. Little Islands are where the lagoons reef comes to its southern end. Rock was obtained here for the building of the airstrip and start to Mt Gower walk. Woodhens can often be seen and fed. After a rest to enjoy the views and a photo or two, we stroll back. Following lunch at Humpty Micks enjoy the afternoon at Ned's Beach feeding the fish. Tonight you will dine at the Bowling Club.

B, L, D

Day 7

Today we will spend time with well known author and naturalist, Ian Hutton who was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to conservation and tourism. Ian has a Bachelor of Science with majors in plant ecology and climatology and his most recent area of conservation has been the impact of plastic debris in our oceans on our seabirds. Following the talk by Ian we will have coffee and cake. This afternoon is at leisure for you to pursue your own interests. If you are fascinated by bird watching, Lord Howe Island is the ultimate seabird destination in Australia with 14 species breeding here in the hundreds of thousands. Many seabird colonies are easily accessible along walking tracks and roads. Good locations are Ned's Beach, Clear Place, Mutton-bird Point, Malabar and Mount Eliza. While it is possible to approach seabirds quite close, please keep disturbance to a minimum. The island forests and pastures are home to 18 land bird species including the rare Woodhen. At low tide the beaches have many visiting shorebirds to observe. This evening we have a 2 course dinner at the Golf Club.

B, D

Day 8

We certainly hope you have enjoyed your visit to Lord Howe, the last paradise! Today you will be transferred to the local airport for your return flight to Brisbane. Upon arrival be greeted by our Cross Country Tours staff who will have your transfers organised.
