Day 1

Home – Adelaide – Port Augusta
After arriving in the city of churches, follow the Gulf of St Vincent and later the Spencer Gulf, travelling through some of South Australia’s premier agriculture country. Pass through snowtown, the centre of the huge windfarms, where an excellent interpretive display will give more information about the advancement of this technology. See the huge smelters of Port Pirie before arriving at the crossroad town of Port Augusta, so named because of the junction of the East/west traffic and those like us, heading South/North. Enjoy dinner tonight in a typical South Australian 1900 homestead with 3 foot thick walls and 12 foot ceilings.

D

Day 2

Port Augusta – Coober Pedy
This morning we travel to Woomera cutting between Lake Gardner and Lake Torrens, for morning tea and a tour of the town. Recently however, activity has increased with the facility being used by research centres from all over the world developing new propulsion technology. Lunch will be at the little town of Glendambo, before arriving in Coober Pedy late afternoon. Our accommodation at the Mud Hut has been uniquely constructed with rammed earth, and is able to provide a more constant temperature in this extreme country.
