From July to October, more than 12,000 wildflower species carpet the mid-west region with their vivid beauty and lush scent. Today you will travel through The Wildflower Way with spectacular displays of native flowering plants and interpretive signage outlining the culture, heritage and flora of each region. You will be able to see some beautiful wattle as you travel through the towns of Dalwallinu, Wubin, Perenjori, Morawa and Mullewa. Over 230 bird species, 100 reptiles, 18 land mammals and the world’s largest population of dugongs (over 10,000) as well as turtles, dolphins, sharks, rays and humpback whales are found here. At Hamelin Pool tour the old Telegraph Station and view living marine stromatolites, the oldest form of life found in the world. Underwater observation windows and microphones allow you to hear and see the dolphins during the cruise. You may also see many species of turtle, dugong, whale, or rare birds for which the area is famous. Your cruise is the perfect way to experience the diversity of the area’s marine life. This afternoon we visit Shark Bay, home to the unique animal, the Hamelin Cockle, a shell species so prolific in Hamelin Pool that they have been compacted into a solid mass able to be cut into blocks and used as building material.
