Day 1

Brisbane – Peterborough
Begin with an early morning transfer to Brisbane Airport where you will be met by our Cross Country Tours staff who will assist with your check-in. On arrival into Adelaide, you will be greeted by our Coach Captain and Hostess to enjoy a buffet lunch in Glenelg. Our journey today takes a north eastern route through the historic thriving agricultural town of Gawler, with fine examples of architecture dating back to the early 1860’s. Continue on to the very scenic Clare Valley, a peaceful little pocket of the world, before traversing merino country to the well planned town of Jamestown. This afternoon, settle in for our overnight stay in Peterborough, an old railway town surrounded by grain growing and pastoral country.

Enjoy lunch in Broken Hill before a visit to the Pro Hart Gallery bursting with Pro’s own paintings as well as many of his favourite artists’ works. Next travel west on the Barrier Highway to Wilcannia which was once a key inland port in the days of paddlesteamers. Continue on to the remote rural community of White Cliffs.

Visit the Opal Fields to see how these gems are extracted from the earth and hear stories of miners striking it rich. Also visit the Solar Power Station – an iconic engineering feat. Today there will be opportunity to wander through some of the many opal showrooms and perhaps purchase a unique piece of jewellery or other souvenir to remember your experience. Return to your motel for another night spent underground.
